Curtains can play a big part in the overall look of a room, really helping complete the design you want to achieve. So, when thinking of your window dressings there is a lot to consider. At Fashion Flooring & Interiors we are more than happy to help, but here are a few things to start thinking about.

Firstly, the type of fabric you use will have a big impact, with different ones suiting different schemes. Using natural fibres like cotton and linen will work well with an earthy style, a look that is more casual and unstructured. These types of fabric are excellent when used in a simple, neutral scheme as they provide texture without being too overpowering. For something dramatic try a velvet, the sumptuous nature and heavy weight has a regal quality, which will add grandeur to any room. A natural silk is the epitome of elegance, the soft sheen and natural slubs give a richness, but with a light feel. There are now more man-made fabrics than ever before, offering an amazing array of finishes, from more natural, through to subtle lustres, and even a bit of sparkle if you are looking for some glamour.
Then there is the design of the fabric. If your goal is to create a simplistic scheme, choose a plain. If you are worried this may end up looking too bland, you can use a border which will add a touch of colour, or interest. Textures are great if you want a little bit of something, but not a pattern. They can vary from a slight weave, through to something much chunkier or embossed. Then there are patterns, florals, geometrics, stripes, animal, damasks, any many more to choose from.

Curtain headings will play a huge part in the finished look. If your style is more formal and tailored, go with a pinch pleat, the structured folds will give uniformity to the curtain. This type of heading also works well for a grander style, a triple pinch requires more fullness, providing volume to the curtains. An eyelet works for a contemporary appearance, with sleek folds that show off both the fabric and the pole they are hung from. For something more modern, a wave is perfect, the invisible heading sits neatly under the pole, creating clean unfussy lines.
