It’s that time of year again, the time when the main people who influence the colour choices for our homes have announced their thoughts. This year they all appear to be on the same page, opting for soft colours, a definite change from the bold, dramatic colours we have seen in the last few years.
Already designers are choosing these colours as they work in all spaces, whether the houses are modern or traditional, the desired look be rich and opulent, natural and earthy, clean and contemporary, or simply timeless.

We have already seen taupe shades increase in popularity throughout 2024, with people looking to add warmth to their homes, moving away from the cooler grey tones that have been seen over the last few years. This is continuing to grow, and we are seeing the introduction of the deeper shades, with more flooring and fabric companies incorporating these colours into their new collections.
Pantone have announced Mocha Mousse as their colour of the year. A soft brown that combines light brown, taupe, and coffee tones. They say ‘It can stand alone or serve as a versatile foundation, enhancing a wide range of palettes and applications’. They are showing it alongside similar hues as well as deep reds, but also combined with more floral tones of pinks and greens, or vibrant oranges and blues, confirming its ability to work in a multitude of schemes.

Little Greene have created a similar colour for 2025, Mochi. Their colour is a ‘warm, caramel-toned neutral, a gentle, subdued colour that can create a restful feel’. A shade that is perfect for colour drenching a room, bringing wrap around warmth and comfort to any space.
Farrow & Ball have chosen to stay with the neutral colour palette they suggested last year, but highlighting colours such as Dead Salmon. ‘It’s a colour which some people see as mushroom and other people sometimes see it as pink. It always has a certain softness.’ They are combining this with simple neutrals, creating calm interiors or deeper shades such as burgundy and dark purple for something more dramatic.
